Looking back at BodaF 2025: a celebration of talent and emotion

🇬🇧 English version

For several years now, I've been attending BodaF, Europe's largest wedding photography conference held in Spain.

This unmissable event is always a wonderful opportunity to learn, get inspired, and meet passionate colleagues from around the world.

This year again, the experience was intense and enriching, both professionally and personally.

From group housing to a solo adventure

My first time at BodaF, I shared accommodation with several colleagues.

While the atmosphere was friendly, organizing was sometimes challenging due to differing interests and schedules.

In subsequent years, I preferred to attend with my friend and colleague David Bascuñana from Studio B in Beaucaire

With him, cohabitation was a real pleasure, and we always fully enjoyed Barcelona, discovering good restaurants and sharing our passion for photography.

However, this year, David was held back in France for an important event:

he received, for the second time, the prestigious title of Meilleur Portraitiste de France during a conference held at the same time as BodaF.

Moreover, last year, he took the presidency of the FFPMI in his region, which requires considerable investment and prevents him from attending all events.

So, I set off solo for Barcelona... but I wasn't alone for long!

Enriching international encounters

Although French photographers were few this year, I quickly found my place among international photographers, who were much more open and accessible.

Unlike some French groups who often stay in their own circles, these encounters allowed me to exchange visions and different approaches to the profession.

It's precisely this open-mindedness and diversity that attract me so much in my travels, and I was delighted to find this same energy in Barcelona again this year.

I also reconnected with key speakers from previous editions, always as approachable and kind. Some recognized me, which pleased me and reinforced my sense of belonging to this passionate community.

Beyond the conferences and professional exchanges, this BodaF 2025 was also significant on a personal level.

I dared to step out of my comfort zone, and not just a little!

I shared festive evenings with talented photographers, dancing in clubs and continuing the night until 5:30 in the morning! An entirely unexpected experience for me, but one that added an unforgettable touch to my stay.

Keko Rangel: humanity in images

Every year, there's a photographer who moves me, touches my heart, and gives me a true artistic crush.

This year, it was Keko Rangel who took that place in my mind and soul.

It's impossible not to be touched by his sensitivity, by the raw emotion that emanates from his images.

His work is a visual and emotional shock, but above all, it's his humanity that stands out.

Keko, is the kind of person who speaks to you and completely turns you around, sharing his story without filters, with an authenticity that commands respect.

He has lived through trials that he has transformed into strength, and it shows in each of his images.

His view of the world is of rare intelligence; he captures the moment with a truth that hits you in the gut.

His photos tell stories, vibrate, and echo something deeply human.

And then there's this humility. This immense talent he carries without arrogance, like a gift he shares sincerely. He doesn't just photograph; he lives each image, he feels them.

Listening to him speak, discovering his universe, I was transported.

He is my emotional favorite of this edition.

His work will stay in my mind for a long time, inspiring me to push my own photography further, to always be more faithful to what I feel.

Thank you, Keko, for this suspended moment, for this raw emotion that gave me chills.

Hastings & King: an inimitable style

Several speakers particularly caught my attention.

Among them, the duo Hastings & King, composed of Robert Hastings et Koko King, stands out with an inimitable style: they are artists with that little extra something, that added soul that makes them instantly recognizable.

Hastings & King, it's exactly that. A couple who openly share that they met on  Tinder, together they combine style, complicity, and timeless elegance.

Koko, with her keen eye for fashion and staging, enhances every detail with incredible precision.

Robert brings a sensitivity to film photography, capturing atmospheres that seem suspended in time.

The blend of their universes results in something absolutely unique: images that are both sophisticated and full of authenticity

They have a strong, assertive vision, and honestly, it only takes seeing one of their photos to know it's theirs. I love photographers who have a distinctive visual signature, and they have one that truly stands out!

Romavera Films: a fresh breeze from Siberia

A breath of fresh air from Siberia in the world of wedding films: Roman et Vera don't just film moments; they feel them, live them, and it shows.

They have the ability to question themselves, to deconstruct their way of working to always do better, to constantly reinvent themselves.

Many get stuck in a style and never change, but they have evolved, experimented, and ultimately created something that truly reflects them.

Their films are vibrant, authentic, never formulaic.

They have this incredible talent for capturing the very essence of a couple, without artifice, letting raw emotion speak.

And frankly, it's refreshing to see videographers who dare to break the mold and never stop learning.

Their work is stunning, and their energy is contagious!

Cristiano Ostinelli: the quintessence of wedding photography

I've been following the incredible work of this Italian maestro of wedding photography.

His reputation is well-established, as his photos are well-known in the industry, but seeing him speak was a privilege.

This Italian photographer, originally from Como, is a true legend in the world of wedding photography. For over 20 years, he has captured the essence of couples with emotion and class.

His approach combines photojournalism and creative portraits, resulting in images that are both spontaneous and artistic.

His talent has been recognized many times, notably by Sony, which chose him as an ambassador to represent the excellence of European photography.

Attending his presentation was a real honor; he has that Italian class, a freedom he perfectly embodies

Cristiano Ostinelli represents for me the quintessence of wedding photography: a perfect fusion of technique, emotion, and art.

A treasure trove of inspiration...

It's amazing how every year,  BodaF shakes me up in every way.

After an already rich first part of emotions and inspiration, the rest of this edition only confirmed why I keep coming back.

I found exactly what I was looking for: teachings, self-questioning, and above all, that little spark that makes me want to push my own limits further.

But honestly, it's going to be hard to talk about just one or two speakers...

They were all so different, with unique styles and approaches, yet so complementary.

Each of them brought something precious: a vision, a technique, an energy that touched me in their own way.

I took notes, absorbed everything I could, and most importantly, I learned. A lot. Want me to tell you more?

"Arte Magna", the poetry of a sincere gaze

Arte Magna, is the kind of duo that reminds you why wedding photography is an art in itself.

No frills, no artifice, just raw sensitivity, a way of capturing the moment with delicacy...

A precision that commands respect.

Their gaze is of absolute sincerity;

each image tells a story without ever overdoing it.

It's subtle, powerful, and above all, it touches the heart.

They offered a touching testimony to open their talk, about the origin story of Arte Magna, a family business from Teresa's father. She even shared her parents’ wedding film with us, a deeply emotional moment that spoke volumes about this family’s legacy as photographers.

That generosity, the desire to share their heritage, is part of what makes their work so special. Through their images, you can feel their deep love for photography, but also for family bonds and the memories they preserve forever.

I was moved by their discreet, almost invisible approach, the way they capture fleeting emotions, those subtle moments we barely notice until they’re frozen in time.

Their work carries a natural elegance, a quiet refinement that doesn’t try to impress, yet leaves a lasting impression.

And then there’s this editorial touch that elevates their portraiture: a refined aesthetic where every detail feels intentional, without ever seeming forced.

Arte Magna is the perfect balance between documentary and poetry, a kind of photography that transcends time and, I’m certain, will stay with us far beyond memory.

And the others...

SILVIA SANCHEZ

Silvia Sanchez is a petite woman with a big personality and a true artistic soul.

Her journey began with a single street photo. That one image was the spark: the start of a beautiful creative adventure.

Since then, she’s been published in numerous magazines and has made a name for herself with a unique, unmistakable style. First and foremost a documentary photographer, she brings this same instinct to weddings always seeking truth, rawness, and pure emotion.

What she loves is capturing those moments where life is felt more than shown... The little details of everyday magic that memories are made of.

Her approach is entirely instinctive, somewhere between documentary and editorial, natural yet refined.

She never forces things. She captures.Always present, never intrusive. Her gift is making people feel, without ever overdoing it.

And honestly? It’s beautiful.

JAVIER MARISCAL & JAVIER ABAD

"The Javis"  (that’s what everyone calls them) are the definition of intelligence and complementarity.

I had already been blown away by Javier Abad’s work in a previous edition of BodaF, and once again this year, his vision and insight into wedding photography captivated me.

He and Javier Mariscal don’t just photograph a wedding, they tell it. Each brings his own perspective, his own way of reading the scene.

While one takes a step back to capture the larger picture, the other zooms in on the most delicate, intimate details in perfect counterpoint.

A visual choreography that made me truly reflect on how powerful it can be to work as a duo.

During their talk, they shared more than techniques:

They shared a philosophy: where photography becomes a lived experience.

An inspiring encounter, one that made me want to go even deeper into visual storytelling.

Lara Onac, Ricardo Catarro, Robert Marcillas

Spain definitely has a gift for producing extraordinary wedding photographers.

Attending the talks of  Lara Onac, Ricardo Catarro, et Robert Marcillas was deeply enriching for me.

All three have this hybrid approach I love a delicate blend of journalistic reportage and editorial elegance.

They elevate every moment without ever freezing it. What unites them is their desire to capture movement, real life, as it happens, and to add that special something that transforms a photo into a timeless work of art.

But beyond that common thread, each has a distinctive signature:

Lara Onac,  with her softness and sensitivity to natural light, captures raw, unfiltered emotion in minimalist yet powerful compositions.

Ricardo Catarro, brings a near-cinematic depth to his frames, with rich contrasts and a narrative precision that leaves nothing to chance.

Robert Marcillas, meanwhile, injects an incredible sense of energy into his work, playing with the rhythm of each wedding to reflect its full intensity.

Three different perspectives, three complementary visions — and one thing I know for sure:

I loved learning from them.

Fran Leonardo y maria teresa

Fran et María Teresaembody elegance and excellence. This Spanish duo from Almería has carved out a unique style in wedding photography — blending refinement, timelessness, and emotional accuracy.

Their background is as impressive as their talent: over 20 years of experience in journalism for prestigious media like EL PAÍS and Agencia EFE, and features in Vogue, Hola Novias, and Lucía se casa.

In short, they have mastered the art of telling powerful stories with subtlety.

They invest themselves personally in every moment, with a rigor that shines through each of their images.

Their vision dances between photojournalism and fashion, resulting in photographs full of rare elegance.

Attending their talk felt like a masterclass in authenticity — a strong reminder that true excellence comes from deep commitment and a unique perspective on the world.

The revelation

Every year, there’s an artist who hits me right in the heart, someone who grabs my soul and leaves me breathless.

I still remember the emotional shock caused by  Isabel Muñoz, that tiny woman whose images made me cry nonstop.

Then came  Eugenio Recuenco and his breathtaking portraits  as if pulled from another world.

This year, it was  Phil Sharp who left me speechless.

This British photographer has a raw, sharp-edged style.

He sculpts light with almost surgical precision, revealing rare intensity in each portrait.

There’s no trickery in his images — only honesty, texture, and depth.

No fluff, just the essential: a glance, a fleeting expression, a moment frozen in time that seems to contain an entire life.

With him, the boundary between subject and viewer disappears.

He forces us to look beyond the surface — to dive straight into the soul of the person in front of the lens.

I was completely fascinated by his approach — this almost obsessive way of capturing the truth in a face, without artifice or compromise. Phil Sharp doesn’t photograph — he reveals. And that is exactly what moved me to the core.

Another flawless edition!

Just like every year, this deep dive into the BodaF universe gave me an enormous dose of inspiration.

The conferences, the conversations, and the encounters all fed my creative vision and pushed me to go beyond my limits.

Experiences like this are essential to keep evolving in our craft and I’m coming out of this congress more motivated than ever!

I can’t wait for the next edition!
